Unfortunately, the organizing committee of the FEP Awards has to announce
that a participant in the FEP Awards 2023 has been disqualified when it subsequently emerged that one of the participant’s entries was not the participant’s own creation. As a result, all of the participant’s entries in the FEP Awards 2023 have been disqualified.
At FEP’s board meeting on May 15, 2023, it was unanimously decided that from the meeting forward, any disqualifications due to the participant not being the sole copyright holder of submitted entries, will mean disqualification of all submitted entries and a two-year suspension from participation in the FEP competitions and FEP qualifications.
The FEP Awards 2023 were live broadcast from Rock Opera Prague on April 15 2023 – while you can find the full results here, you might want to see how it all went down in Prague! Click above to play.
The FEP General Assembly 2023 was held in Prague, Czech Republic on April 16, 2023
At the meeting, the financials of the fiscal year 2022 were approved and a new President Elect was elected. Or at this time, not really a “new” one, since current President Truls Lotvedt was unanimously elected to serve for another term as the President.
In addition, one new Auditor was elected. He is Veikko Nurminen from Finland. The other auditor, Milos Fic from the Czech Republic will continue into the second year of his term.
On the following day, April 17, several FEP member association CEOs met in a separate meeting. During the meeting issues related to copyright laws, sponsorship, communications and marketing were discussed. As a result we will renew our sponsorship packages and work on offering new tools for communication and marketing for our members associations.
A warm thank you to the Czech association APF for hosting us in Prague!
FEP Professional Photographer of the Year 2023 is André Boto!
2023 marks as a historical year for the FEP Awards, the competition has been in existence since 2010 and every year a different photographer has won it, only now we received our first two-time winner, André Boto of Portugal. Aptly Boto was the one to win the very first title as well back in 2010.
Again over 300 European photographers submitted images for the FEP Awards, clearly this is a competition European photographers value and wish to take part in. We wish to thank you all for all!
It was no easy task for our Chairman Johan Brouwers and his team 30 international judges to go through and evaluate all of the images entered, but as always, they worked hard to complete the task and we can now see the results of their work. So once more a heartfelt thanks to our judges! You can read more about our judges here.
Chairman Brouwers comments: “it is clear an unstoppable wave of new technologies has entered into the FEP competition. Thanks to AI, the digital images category has seen tremendous growth and this was also visible in other categories such as commercial, illustrative and even fashion and portrait.”
This time the FEP Awards took place in the RockOpera theater in beautiful and historic Prague. Man of the evening was undoubtedly André Boto, he was a finalist in a whopping 6 of the competition’s 12 categories and gathered 3 medals, one of each colour: gold, silver and bronze. Being a finalist 6 different categories proves what a versatile and talented photographer he is.
Also notable was the success of a first-time participant Arun Mohanraj from UK, he took part in the FEP Awards for the very first time and goes back home 3 Golden Camera awards to show for his efforts!
The Chairman commented: “For the first time in my five-year presidency of the FEP Awards we had to wait until the very last votes came in before it was clear who the overall winner would be. The competition has never been more close.”
During the FEP Awards ceremony, also the winners of the FEP Young Photographer Award were announced. The FYPA is a competition specifically aimed for young photographes under the age of 30. The winner, Jonas Michler from Germany was already among the finalists of the competition, but this year he upgraded himself to the top position. You can see his portfolio as well as the 2 other merit winners’ portfolios here:
As usual, the FEP Awards will be streamed live and you can follow the broadcast on our official Facebook page. The Awards ceremony takes places on Saturday, April 15 in Prague ay 4.30 pm CET.

In the aftermath of the 2022 Awards ceremony in Rome, we took a few minutes to ask some judges and participants what’s so special about participating in the FEP Awards, we hope you enjoy this glimpse behind the scenes.
The QEP/MQEP registrations for the next session (June 2023) will open on Monday, January 9, 2023 online at the QEP/MQEP registration page
All the candidates already registered for November 2022 are automatically moved to the June 2023 session and they do not need to pay again.
The old early birds price (150 euro for QEP and 250 euro for MQEP) will stay only until January 31.
The new early birds fee (from 2023) will be 170 euro for QEP and 270 euro for MQEP. This discounted fee will be available from February 1 until March 31.
After that date, fee will be 185 euro for QEP and 295 euro for MQEP. (The same criterion will be applied for the November 2023 session and so on).
Deadline for applications for June session will be April 12. This is the last day to register and the date in which FEP will count applications and decide to confirm or not the event.
We are currently experiencing difficulties with FEP email addresses and therefore we won’t be receiving your messages. We are working to fix the issue but right now we are asking for your patience.
In addition, you may have to resend your message in a few days as we do not know for now whether all messages will come thru when the accounts are up and running again.
The next QEP & MQEP judging session will take place on June 18-19 in Poprad, Slovakia. During the last judging session last November we introduced video feedbacks for the unsuccessful panels, since we felt that is a better way to give the candidate as much feedback and constructive comments as possible. We will now continue with those.
Time allowing, we may also recording some other video materials in this session that can be used as promotional and/or educational material for future judging sessions.
Results of the judging session will be published on our website once the judging is complete.
The FEP will be hosted in Slovakia by APFSR, Asociácia Profesionálnych Fotografov Slovenskej Republiky. This is the second time the FEP is hosting a judging session in Slovakia, the previous one was on November 2013 in Bratislava.
The FEP General Assembly 2022 was held in Rome, Italy on May 1, 2022.
During the meeting, the financials of the fiscal year 2021 were approved and a new board was elected for the FEP. The new Board consists of the following people: Marie de Verdier Persson, Bernd Gassner, Tiina Haring, Friedrich Jansenberger, Martin Krystýnek, Jeanette Larsen, Eugenio LiVolsi, William Moureaux, Bent Nygaard Larsen, Jan Pohribný and Caroline Tanghe. Truls Lötvedt will continue as the President.
The external auditors for 2022 will be Miloš Fic and Willem van der Vlies.
The member associations were also encouraged to express candidacies of hosting the FEP Awards or the QEP/MQEP judging events in the future.
We wish to express our gratitude for the members of the previous Board for their work over the past year and welcome the new Board for 2022-2024!
We are happy to announce that to the following professional videographers have been awarded with the QEV – Qualified European Videographer title, at the last QEV online session.
The FEP Awards Ceremony 2022 will be held in Rome, Italy, on Sunday May 1st at 18:00 CET and we are really looking forward to it! If you are unable to attend Rome in person, you can still watch the event live on Facebook!
The FEP, Federation of European Professional Photographers, has been deeply appalled by the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine and strongly feels that any type of military action against any nation is abhorrent. We simply cannot look the other way and in this instance we need to take a stand now.
Whilst we will continue to support creators and image makers of all nations, including Russia, after careful deliberation, we have come to the conclusion that we must suspend the membership of the Russian associations within FEP. The suspension will take effect immediately and remain until all hostilities against Ukraine or any other nation have ceased.
During this time members of Russian associations or any Russian photographer cannot take part in qualifications, competitions or other activities organised by the FEP. This also includes the current competition’s results. We recognize there are innocent Russian creators who openly disagree with this aggression and war, who will be affected by this action which we bitterly regret.
The FEP board made this decision based on the rules of the event and the values of the FEP. Before making this resolution, the FEP took time to diligently consult with its members. FEP is a non-political organization of professional photographers dedicated to upholding the values of all professional photographers. This has not been an easy decision, it is not a knee jerk reaction, rather something which has been debated in depth over these past weeks within FEP and its member associations.
We remain committed to protecting these values in a cultural competition that promotes international exchange and understanding, brings audiences together, celebrates diversity through photography and unites all of Europe on one stage.
We are pleased to announce the FEP Awards and FEP Young Photographer Award finalists 2022. All names are listed alphabetically under the respective category. The Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 1 in Rome, Italy. All finalists will be contacted personally to give them further information about the event in Rome. In each category of the FEP Awards, the TOP 3 photographers will be awarded with Bronze, Silver and Golden Cameras. The winners of the Golden Cameras will also compete for the competition’s overall winner’s title, the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year 2022. In the Young Photographers’ competition we will award one winner and additional merit award winners Like every year, there are also images outside of the final receiving single image awards. These will be revealed after the Awards ceremony. Congratulations to all of the finalists, you can be proud of your achievements! We hope to see you in Rome receiving your awards!
