Rules & Regulations of FEP Young Photographer Award 2024

Who can apply?
The award is open to any young photographer. Candidates must be under 30 years of age at the closing date for submission.
Conditions to enter
The candidate must register on the FEP website and create an account, then log-in to enter the Award.
A portfolio of 9 images must be submitted through the FEP website.
Files must be RGB JPEG, 4,000 pixels on the longest side and under 8 MB.
Any subject is acceptable but they must be a unified collection. It is recommended the images tell a story and conform to European Law.
A personal statement (in English) must be submitted together with the images explaining the context/theme of the submitted portfolio. The statement should be a maximum of 100 words.
The personal statement and images should not include names or anything that might identify the candidate, institution, or place of business. Failure to submit the personal statement will affect the scoring of your work. It may only be a few words, but it is important.
An entry fee of € 20,00 per portfolio is required. Payment must be made to the FEP by each candidate via Stripe at the end of the online submission. The registration will be valid only when FEP receives evidence of payment.
The organizer (FEP) reserves the right to check the age of the participant if necessary
Judging
Judging will be online by 3 international judges, chaired by a non-voting Chairman. To ensure impartiality each portfolio will be given a score out of a 100 by each judge (as a whole panel of photographs, not individual images). This score will decide the top portfolios - winner and any merits. The Chairman can invite the judges to re-assess a portfolio if there is a large variation in scores. Judging is anonymous, judges will not know the name of a candidate or from which country a portfolio has been sent. Judges will be asked to give some positive feedback on each portfolio to benefit the photographer. Any advice will be conveyed after the Award Ceremony.
As well as presenting The Young Photographer Award for the best submission, the judges may award merits to other outstanding submissions. The judges’ decision is final, no correspondence will be entered into regarding the judging or the results.
Prizes
The winner of The Young Photographer Award will receive a certificate and trophy at the annual Award Ceremony, which in 2024 will be held on April 13th in Ålesund, Norway.
Presented together with the winners of the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year Awards and other FEP certificates as appropriate.
Merit winners, (should there be any) will receive a merit certificate. All those receiving awards will be invited to collect their prize and FEP may contribute to their travel expenses. The winner and any photographers awarded merits will also win a free submission for the QEP qualification once the criteria for a QEP application is met (i.e. membership of a national FEP member association or individual membership if no organisation exists in a country). At the discretion of the organisation concerned, a one-year free membership to their country’s Association may be offered to Merit award winners and the overall winner.
Secretariat and Organisation
All candidates will receive written notification of the result of their submission from the FEP Secretariat, as well as any positive feedback given by the judges after the winners have been announced. Only successful candidates will be publicised.
The FEP Secretariat will not put forward for judging any portfolio if:
- the images submitted do not conform to these rules (please make sure files are the correct size and the word count precise).
- the submission fee has not been paid.
Copyright and Releases
The copyright of all images submitted remains with the copyright holder. However, the FEP reserves the right to use any of the submitted images, without payment, for display and publicity purposes for this and future FEP awards or projects. The winner of the Award may be required to supply TIFF files of the images for publicity purposes at a later date. These should be 300 dpi with a maximum longest dimension 40 cm and not less than 30 cm.
