Sheena Jolley

Ireland - Irish Professional Photographers Association - IPPVA

Sheena Jolley is dedicated to capturing award winning images of the indigenous wildlife of Ireland presenting to us our beautiful and inspiring natural heritage. With this objective her travels have taken her to the many islands along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and also to the lighthouses to observe the wildlife in the seas and skies  surrounding them.  With the islands becoming more popular and easily accessible by organised boat trips, she hopes to increase the awareness and appreciation of our natural world. She likes to focus on freezing the briefest of moments and rejoices in its ability to hold the gaze in a still image. It could be the momentary eye contact with an animal or bird, the light in an eye, the transient light at dawn and dusk, a moment too fast to be easily seen by the naked eye. The resultant image could be a tight close-up or a study of the dynamics of animal behaviour but the aim is always to take people closer to see better the detail, colour and spirit of a wild creature. In 2013 she was IPPA Winner Best Wildlife Portfolio. In 2009 and 2015 she was a finalist in the BBC Wildlife photographer of the Year Competition. In 2018 she was selected as a finalist of the European Heritage Photographer of the Year. She has had many solo exhibitions of her work but now concentrates on exhibiting in her own gallery in Schull.
