Biography
Long experience in photography, video and graphics!
After graduating from the Integrated Secondary School of Printing in Brno in 1996, I immediately fell into the printing industry.– I started my first job and practical experience at the Lelka offset printing house. There I worked mainly as a DTP operator. My work included preparing graphics for printed matter, including editing postscript files for CTP pre-press preparation on “metal sheets”. Additional practice was “manual typesetting of type cones” for prints and reprints of small printed matter on a letterpress printing machine. Part of this practice was the printing itself, gilding, embossing and cutting on this machine. I also partially participated in the bookbinding of prints.– Another milestone in my graphic practice was learning how to apply graphics from foils to cars and trucks and signs, along with DTP work in the Proton Design graphic studio. For my hobby, I buy a Canon EOS 300 film SLR camera.– In the third year, I did my internship at the Grafex graphic studio as a DTP operator on Mac machines. Here I started to think about becoming a freelance creative. At the same time, I attend drawing classes in Brno at Mr. Fridrich's studio while working.– It was clear in April 2004. I am starting to work as a self-employed person in the field of graphics - printed, online. I am learning how to make websites, how to create them and how to set them up so that they are not dependent on third-party search engines for a fee. Thanks to education in the field of SEO (website optimization for Internet search), the work of saving clients' money is going well.I include my hobby of drawing and painting in the form of Airbrush paintings on cars and motorcycles, bodypainting (painting on the naked human body) and manual linking of veteran cars in my work portfolio.
Almost at the same time, I am expanding my trade license to include photography. (Inquiries about wedding photography are piling up.) I have been doing wedding photography (both reportage from the ceremony and stylized photography in castle gardens) full-time for 9 years (9-14 weddings per season). At the same time, there was nothing left to do but to buy a Canon EOS 350D digital SLR camera. This is followed by more detailed self-study and practice with editing digital photos. And I photograph weddings, reportages, parties, portraits, nudes, portfolios, products. For photographic experiments, I bought medium-format analog cameras for roll films. After getting tired of the digital camera, I am buying a new body and lenses. The new SLR can now shoot video in FullHD and 4K resolution. I am slowly starting to flirt with the idea of starting to film and edit something. But nothing serious.
At the same time, I was offered a job as a camera operator at Tonstudio Rajchman. This meant that my “vocation” was further expanded to include a profession related to video and multimedia production. This meant that my colleagues from the recording studio and I went on a “business trip”. Complex work for a cultural event. Help with the construction of the stage (laying out the cabling, sound equipment, hanging the lights and stage lighting, installing the projector and projection screen and setting up the cameras, including connecting them to the video direction. Then the work of the cameraman and the sound engineer began. After the program ended, everything had to be disassembled again, put into transport boxes and taken to the warehouse. With such practice, you learn something again. We shoot videos from festivals, various musical genres (among the largest are the Strážnice International Film Festival, the Slovak Year of Kyjov), concerts - rock, pop, folklore, symphony orchestras, balls, New Year's Eve, shooting music videos for bands...And there are orders to shoot video reports from events, productions, etc.The next stage of my existence is publishing videos from my travels photographing landscapes, portraits and artistic nudes. I publish the resulting videos on Youtube.I don't know where the professional winds will blow me next, what I will do.I know that photography (digital and film) and video and graphics still enjoy. I need a creative environment for my life.If you managed to read my professional progress up to this point, now you can "click through" my entire website and find out what I have here (at least partially).Have a nice day,Jan Šimek, Moravian photographer, video creator and graphic designer in one person, member of the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic, ambassador of FOTOESHOP.CZ
